According to Business Weekly, 3D TV may take off somewhere else other than your living room’s centre piece, aka your luxurious flat screen television. In fact – the humble smartphone may be able to broadcast your favourite footie matches in all three dimensions.
A joint venture by the University of Bedfordshire and University of Manchester has made use of freed up spectrum and Wi-Fi communication applied radio systems which led the two faculties to find that watching 3D TV on your smartie is a realistic a concept as watching it at home or in the cinema.
3DTVwatcher would now like to imagine a world where all busy commuters were watching 3D content while travelling on the Underground. Now that would be fun.
Snapping out of our daydream, University of Bedfordshire’s Professor Ben Allen, said he thought that the work that the project has managed to accomplish would assist in pushing 3D content on mobile phones further. He was quoted as saying:
“There is a lot of work on cognitive radio that would help do that, which was revealed at the conference. Some phones already have good enough screens for 3D TV.”
We wonder which smarties he meant exactly. Is the newest Samsung Galaxy S3 or the iPhone 4S?
Conference number two is expected to reveal further details on the 3D project and it will be held next year.
3D mobiles as a concept have seen limited success, (LG Optimus Max, we’re looking at you), but maybe having 2D mobiles by default and optional 3D content will prove to be a success?
Would you watch 3D flicks on you smartie, dear reader?
