3D mobile – the next step in 3D evolution?

It pains us to write such a shameful cliché, but 3D really is all the rage right now. And with television in particular, it’s easy to see why. It’s the next logical step in the evolution of home entertainment. Black and white TV, colour, colour on a large screen, colour on a large high definition large screen with surround sound and now tridimensional television. If this evolution has proven one thing, it’s that technology doesn’t stay still for long. Asking for 3D to stop at television…

Sony uses 3D to solve multiplayer screen confusion woes

Recent reports suggested that Sony’s new Playstation branded TV features a novel feature that will allow gamers to play split screen games whilst not getting the screens confused. In multiplayer video gaming where the screen is split for multiple players, it can sometimes be confusing or distracting to other players. Apparently Sony got around this by creating a highly evolved split screen mode using the 3D technology within the TV. This means that instead of splitting the screen in the traditional method, it will show two…

Sony to rollout passive 3DTvs

According to recent reports, Sony has a grand plan to start rolling out passive 3D television sets. Some of you might remember that Sony has been especially keen on active 3D sets, as according to the firm, the image was much clearer and the resolution – sharper. Although the Japanese firm is yet to confirm the news formally, it has been said that it started to feed these passive products into the Chinese market, while Europe has to wait until September to…

LG’s controversial 3D TV campaign provokes Sony rage

LG recently claimed its 3D TVs were superior to Sony and Samsung’s based on the findings from its ‘blind test’ survey. LG is planning on using these findings as a basis for a new advertising campaign which has greatly upset Sony in particular. LG’s website has already used these findings to promote its 3D TVs using the slogan: “3 Brands. 3 Dimensions. One Clear Winner” and it also stated that: “In 3D TV tests, 4 out of 5 people…

The future looks bleak for 3D TVs?

A recent survey by retrevo.com suggests a rather unwelcoming outlook for the future of the 3D TV market. 3D TV sales have failed to explode or to meet electronic retailers’ targets as people become increasingly disillusioned with the technology and the hassle of wearing and buying 3D glasses. The survey claimed that only 22 per cent planned to purchase a 3D TV with a further 23 per cent saying they’d purchase a 3D TV if it was much cheaper. However, 55 per…

LG tops a poll for the best 3D TV brand

LG has recently conducted a cinema challenge in Westfield shopping centres around Australia, which found that 80 per cent of people preferred LG’s passive 3D TVs to active shutter technology offered by its rivals, Sony and Samsung. The poll was put together using a ‘blind test’ meaning members of the public were invited to view two 3D TVs with all the branding labels removed. They then indicated which 3D TV they thought provided the best “viewing experience” when compared side by side. Reportedly over 4,000 Australians…

And a single pair active 3D glasses for all?

A collaboration between the three big companies specialising in 3D to bring standardised glasses is now underway. A statement from Sony announced that the “Full HD 3D Glasses initiative” was right on track, revealing that the companies involved were now working together to develop standard 3D glasses. Back in August Samsung, Sony and Panasonic said that they would work together to bring a standard to active 3D glasses. The standardisation of those would mean that everyone interested could have a special set instead…

Sony 3D headset arrives at Harrods

Sony 3D headset hits Harrods

When Sony first announced the launch of its new 3D headset many people thought it was a concept device and that it would never hit the shop floors. However, Sony has proven sceptics wrong as the Sony HMZ-T1 3D viewer hit the Harrods store yesterday. Models were seen outside of the luxury mall showing off the headsets, which will be rolled out across the country over the coming months. Their new 3D headset features two OLED screens set just…

The 3D Evolution

3D TV is forever improving, however with early claims that its introduction was the biggest endeavour since living colour, so far sales have been disappointing. The 3D glasses that, until now, were a fundamental part of 3D viewing did not help matters. Having to wear bulky, heavy glasses when watching telly in your living room, is not the leading selling point. Industry insiders speculate that consumers are simply waiting for the technology to improve before committing. There is also a high chance…

2011 the 3D year for Sony

Numerous Sony representatives have spoken over the last year about where the company stands on 3D and how it sees the relationship between Sony and the format. Sony is now revelling in the fact that its PlayStation 3 gaming console is benefiting from its multi-platform capabilities. Director of Hardware Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, John Koller, spoke about the console and how 3D is being received: “We’ve seen a huge response to 3D, especially given the fact that we added 3D functionality to all PS3s with no additional cost to the…
