As a world exclusive, up to 14 of the 26 Olympic disciplines can be watched in 3D format, the Olympic Broadcast Service (OBS) announced.
However, the public demand for the games to be shown in 3D, is significantly less than the demand for High Definition (HD).
OBS chief executive Manolo Romero said that the 14 broadcasters from all over the world, will use 300 specialised staff to deliver the content. Among the 14 are the BBC and the NBC and it is expected that more countries will…

The UK and USA may be embracing 3D TV with open arms but down in Australia it is a different story as the government has started to quietly dismantle their 3D transmission towers.
Over the last year the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has been trialling 3D TV by opening up the spectrum to allow 3D broadcasts.
The trial appears to have been a failure as interest in 3D TV has waned and the transmission towers came down.
This is partly due to the fact that in Australia 3D TV has…

LG found in a survey that over a quarter of Brits are desperate for a chance to watch the 2012 games in 3D.
Previously 3D TV sales had been slow partly due to the cost, not just of the TV but the channels and specs that are needed, which has lead consumers to opt for the cheaper option – HD TVs.
However, a study indicated that people were having a change of heart as half of the 2,000 customers that LG surveyed said their next TV purchase…

Sports will be the medium that will make 3D mainstream, says Avatar director James Cameron.
At the Abu Dhabi media summit Cameron compared the transition to 3D to when TV made the leap from black and white to colour.
According to Cameron the only thing holding 3D TV back from realising its true potential at sporting events and as an alternative to traditional filming was the equipment.
3D cameras were too bulky and often ruined the sporting experience for fans who had to…

3D has proved a hit with punters and pub owners alike, as thousands flocked to see David Haye defeat Audley Harrison in their WBA fight on Saturday night. The fight was broadcast in 3D by Sky, and although it would have drawn in huge crowds were it not in the tridimensional format, many believe 3D to be responsible for the overwhelmingly large audiences.
One pub in Staffordhire even reported crowds outside watching the fight through the windows, Martyn Reid, manager of The Terrace waxed lyrical about the pulling power…

After launching its dedicated 3D channel in June this year, and broadcasting the FIFA World Cup in the format, the 24 hour sports channel may pull the plug on the project. Whilst televised sport has proved popular in 3D, the tridimensional technology is still proving more popular in cinemas, it is currently more of an added luxury for films, rather than a must-have for the home audio visual set-up.
Speaking at the Sports Broadcast Europe conference, Jonathan Pannaman commented on the review that would determine the future of the…
