Only some films should be in 3D, Spielberg said

We all remember Stephen Spielberg being keen on giving the first part of his Jurassic Park trilogy the tridimensional treatment, however his latest film, War Horse, was simply not meant to be in 3D, the director suggested.

During the premiere of the oh-so awaited film, Mr Spielberg told the reporters that there was nothing wrong with the format except for the fact that it was being taken too much advantage of.

The BBC reported the famous director as saying:

“I think 3D is a tool in a very large tool kit and we have to learn to use our tools wisely and appropriately.

“I don’t think the same tool should be used for every motion picture and 3D is great for Avatar but I never would have made ET in 3D, even if I had made it today.”

He also said that it was simply wise to use the format with caution as it served as an enhancement to some content and could easily turn a picture into a gimmick if overused:

“I really believe that 3D is good for some pictures and perhaps not for others.”

In other news, Guy Ritchie also wanted to film his second installation of Sherlock Holmes in 3D but the studios did not share his enthusiasm for the tridimensional format:

“I did try to push Sherlock Holmes for 3D but the main reticence was there was a lot of 3D coming out and it felt almost tired at the time we were embarking on it.”

Meanwhile, other directors are filling the 3D gaps with George Lucas converting the Star Wars saga into 3D and Cameron bringing back the Titanic to sink yet again in 3D.
