My3D makers were wondering if their new product would make the 3DTVWatcher team smile, or perhaps even giggle?
It might be worth refreshing your memory – the bigger part of the team was a Hasbro’s Transformers Helmet fanatic, while the minority would not swap their Guccis for anything else.
Nevertheless, that all changed quite quickly as the whole 3DTVWatcher newsdesk was queuing up to try out the My3D binoculars.
It’s a good thing that our online team is a young bunch (at least at heart) as the goggles are designed for children.
However, after hours of what our editors called research, (aka being sucked into My3D game apps), we all were quite confident that adults will equally have a lot of fun with the tridemensional binoculars.
Products Expert, Chris Mizon, said:
“The My3D ‘goggles’ are definitely something different. The beauty of them is that they don’t need any power to work, you simply slide in your iPod Touch or iPhone, select which 3D app you want to play and you’re off. I think the success will come down to how many different 3D apps become available.”
Online Contributor, Francisco Savill, thought:
“The My3D is a small addictive little add-on that makes playing games on your iTouch or iPhone an engaging experience. The on screen buttons are conveniently placed allowing for straight forward selection of game modes and setting.
“The 3D element is still lacking and the images don’t jump off the screen as they do using the Nintendo 3DS, in addition to this some resolution is lost as only half of the screen is to make use of the 3D. Having said this, the experience itself is still fun and the quality of the games makes up for any loss in 3D.”
Head of Online, Geoff Slaughter, commented:
“It’s an immersive experience and really fun to use, particularly as the apps make use of the in-built gyroscope, so the on-screen action tracks your movement in 360 degrees. A limitation for me was the portrait display, which is fine for games but would be a problem for movies I think (if that’s the future for this add-on. Perhaps a focusing wheel would be a good idea (as you would find on a pair of binoculars).”
SEO Assistant, Teresa Lopez-Mezquita, said:
“I’ve never liked computer games that much, but I do have an iTouch, and the games on it are addictive indeed. I’ve found My3D very entertaining, especially because it is really easy to learn how to take the control of the apps, even if you are not a die-hard gamer.”
Editorial Assistant, Summer Murawski, added:
“The equipment is like something out of Back to the Future. It is easy to become immersed in the game due to the high level of interaction; sounds, movement and image, it really stimulates the senses. However, having to hold the piece to your eyes could get irritating after a while plus the amount of head movement necessary means you need adequate space to complete a level.”
Summarising, while wearing these binoculars outdoors may not score users style or sanity points, My3D surely deserves the title of the portable 3D entertainment king.
It might be worth noting that parents should not let their little ones out of sight while they engage in the 3D entertainment, as playing with the device does involve a lot of movement.
It’s a good idea to be vigilant – no one wants their iPod Touch accidentally broken or their child walking into a wall.
Having said that, do excuse the 3DTVWatcher team for bumping into you – we are not taking our My3D binoculars off anytime soon.
Too many sharks to chase, ponds to jump into and points to collect.
