Perhaps possible is a bit misleading if you don’t want to look mad whilst using the device out in public, but this is possible nonetheless.
Children’s toy manufacturer Hasbro has been known to make 3D devices that little bit more fun, recently launching a Transformers helmet which incorporated 3D glasses.
Despite the lack of adult sizes, or the convenient availability to the UK, Hasbro has got the 3DTVWatcher seal of approval for that particular 3D enabling headwear.
Its latest device though, we’re not so sure about.
The My3D is a pair of what looks like binoculars in which an iPhone or an iPod touch can be placed, and subsequently displays 3D images to the user’s fixated eyes.
Obvious problems rear their head straight away in that to use the My3D anywhere other than your own home would be very inconvenient, and that the content available is only so through apps.
The device works with the iPhone or iPod touch using a specially designed app that splits the screen in to two different images that are then brought together in the device creating the 3D effect.
Despite persistent rumours, due mainly to Apple’s securing of yet another 3D patent, about the iPhone 5 having an autostereoscopic 3D display, Hasbro has seen fit to facilitate 3D for those in desperate need of a 3D fix on the go, but who are loyal to Apple or who can’t afford a 3DS.
Nice idea though, and for what is retailing at $35 (£21) we shouldn’t be so dismissive. Maybe we just loved the Transformers helmet so much we wondered why they couldn’t combine the two, now that would be cool.
