Some of you might remember that China has been very keen on launching a 3D TV channel – a plan which has become a reality.
As a quick reminder, the channel will broadcast almost everything in 3D, including the 2012 Olympic Games in London, films, cartoons, soap operas, news as well as sports.
Meanwhile, France has announced exactly the opposite, having been running a 3D TV channel and deciding to close it down.
Vivendi’s Canal+ has been broadcasting content using the tridimensional format as an experiment which, according to the firm, has reached only a modest amount of success, attracting only 30,000 viewers ever since it launched in June last year.
Among the 3D programmes, Canal+ has run US feature films as well as English Premier League football games, but it seems that even sport fanatics have been reluctant to watch their favourite games in 3D.
While voicing its woes, the French channel said that it might return to 3D translations as soon as demand grows – which is why it will probably be keeping an eye on the tridimensional channel development in China.
It might be worth adding that India, South Korea as well as Japan already have their own 3D TV channel offerings.
