Forget 3D glasses, 3D phones, or 3D TVs, the best 3D gadget is not eatable but it produces edible 3D content.
Researchers at Exeter University developed a printer which outputs chocolate in 3D.
Dr Lian Hao, lead scientist at the University, said that chocolate printing, just like any other 3D printing technique, starts with a flat cross-section image – similar to that produced by ordinary printers turning out images.
He continued saying:
“Then you do a 3D shape – layer by layer, printing chocolate instead of ink, like if you were layering 2D paper to form a 3D shape.”
The printer is still a prototype but the scientists admitted that there has already been interest in the gadget.
Joanna Grant from retailer findmeagift.co.uk said:
“Obviously, it’s chocolate, so it is hugely appealing.
“But what is even more appealing, is that customers will be able to design any object on a computer before hitting the print button.
“We could do things like 3D faces, for instance – the possibilities are enormous on a commercial aspect.”
