Despite disappointing cinema ticket sales, the UK has seen a boost in box office revenue due to 3D tickets.
According to the British Film Institute, movies such as Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland have helped bring in money to cinemas.
Anita Nevill, who is the chief executive at the BFI, said:
“Despite the economic environment, the outlook for film is still generally positive with much to be optimistic about.
“But there are still challenges to address and the BFI looks forward to working closely with the industry and with government to address these.”
However, critics said that the 3D format was on the decline and the public was no longer interested in it. More and more movies were being released in 3D although it did not seem to add much to the movie itself.
As an example, the last installment of the Harry Potter saga has been released in both 3D and 2D yet the latter has outsold the 3D version by far.

That is probably because people are becoming aware of the differences in a real 3D movie and a post converted 3D movie.
Why would you spend the extra money to see pseudo 3D.
